COMMANDS Project Enters Final Phase with Consortium Meeting in Rome

From the 27th to 29th May, the COMMANDS consortium gathered in Rome to mark the beginning of the final phase of the project. The event was split into three meetings: Community of Interest meeting, General Assembly and consortium workshops. Hosted by consortium partner Leonardo S.p.A., it celebrated major milestones and set the course for the final stretch leading to the upcoming system demonstration.

Now entering its concluding months, the COMMANDS project is on track to deliver a breakthrough System of Systems designed to enable seamless and reliable cooperation between manned and unmanned ground assets for European defence forces. With development well advanced, the consortium is intensifying preparations for the final demonstration phase.

The first day featured the Community of Interest meeting, which brought together not only consortium members but also the Project Officer from the European Commission as well as representatives from the Ministries of Defence of the supporting countries: Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Spain. Their presence further strengthened the project’s alignment with operational needs. The session fostered collaboration, provided feedback on recent progress, and reaffirmed the shared commitment to the project’s strategic objectives. Moreover, the meeting marked the completion and approval of major project milestones, confirming steady progress towards final delivery. The project celebrated this achievement as they also received formal approval from the key stakeholders of the Main Gate Review Milestone. Which selected the technologies that will be further developed and integrated into the upcoming Mobile Demonstration.

The second day, the General Assembly served as a ground for detailed discussions about project organisation aspects, demonstration planning details, past and future activities and in general, to discuss the project progress within the consortium.

The final day focused on technical internal coordination, allowing the consortium to align on preparations for upcoming testing and integration campaigns. These efforts will culminate in the project’s final demonstration, which will showcase the full capabilities of the COMMANDS system.

As the project nears completion, the consortium remains fully committed to delivering a robust, interoperable solution that enhances the operational effectiveness of Europe’s ground forces.
